
Richard J. Mandel, MD
Richard J. Mandel, MD, is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon,
specializing in hand, upper extremity, shoulder, and arthroscopic
and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Mandel, a native Philadelphian,
received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and interned
in General Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University. After completing
a four year orthopaedic residency at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital
Trauma Center where he served as Chief Resident in Orthopaedics
for the University of Miami, Dr. Mandel returned
to the Philadelphia area, where he has been in private practice for
twenty live years. His particular interests include minimally invasive
surgery, repetitive motion disorders and occupational Injuries.
Dr. Mandel has continually served the medical community through his
appointments to the teaching staff at the University of Pennsylvania
as Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, as Associate
Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Philadelphia College
of Osteopathic Medicine, as Associate Chairman of Orthopaedics at
Mercy Suburban Hospital, and as a medical staff member at Chestnut
Hill Hospital. He has trained over 200 orthopaedic surgeons who practice
throughout the United Stales. Dr. Mandel served for 16 years as the
Chief of the Hand Service at Germantown Hospital and has been guest
editor of Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research as well as the
University of Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Journal. He has lectured throughout
the United States on many orthopaedic topics and has received numerous
awards, including the excellence in teaching award in orthopaedics
from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a long-term member of
many national and local professional and scientific orthopaedic societies.
He has volunteered as orthopaedist for the musicians of the Philadelphia
Youth Orchestra and the national championship Germantown Academy
wrestling team.
